First week back!

What a tough first week back at uni.
New modules, new expectations and new people.

I moved back up to uni on the Sunday night ready for Monday morning 9am lecture for the exercise and rehab module. Learning about exercises for rehab is a great start to the year. Exercises are important for regaining strength, range of movement and flexibility of muscles after injury.
To start the year off with a bang we were handed our first assignment due in the end of October. Giving us one month only to write it. As a student with a learning disability this is going to be tough!! 30 days to write a whole literature review, 14 days to get a draft in!!!

Tuesday came and it was the first lecture of the clinical practise module. A hour lecture to kick off the foreign module that blew everyone's minds. In second year, we go in to the sports therapy clinic at our uni to learn and use what we have learnt previously to progress and help clients. We have our own patients and suddenly a lot more responsibility. For the clinical practice module, we have a portfolio that is huge. We have to complete 80 hours of placements to pass the year, 40 with a sports team and 40 from clinic itself. We provide the first aid/ immediate management for the team we are placed with. In the portfolio there are also 2 case study's. This is along side the literature review for exercise and rehab.

Wednesday was our clinic induction where we got to practice hand overs and chat with third years about how it works and what we actually have to do. As this point we were all terrified. Luckily this was the only thing I had to do this Wednesday, as all my other inductions/ refreshers are next Wednesday.

Thursday is my favourite module which is anatomy and physiology. Not only my favourite but my best and the highest grade I got! In anatomy we were given another case study. Along with 2 practical exams on the spine examination and assessment. The lecture was actually fun. We had to edit a google document for all lower leg pathologies as a group of 60 students. Our lecturer also helps us revise with quizzes so we spent 10 minutes doing a fun quiz online.
Lastly we made infographics for the lower limb pathology we got given. We chose osgood schlatters. A condition where micro traumas cause avulsion fractures and cause a lot of pain! Next came the lab session. We completed a health questionnaire which consisted of personal details, anthropometric measurements and social / medical history.
Next came a tour of the lab which was amazing!! So much equipment!! We have an environmental chamber, bod pod, manual and electric treadmills for testing and blood sampling equipment. I'm paying £27,000 to use all this equipment! How amazing and lucky am I?!!
Lastly came the practical session where we recapped lower limb anatomy. Including hip, knee and ankle bony landmarks, ligaments, origins and insertions, muscles and movements. I am very happy that I was doing well and remembered most origins and insertions! Pretty proud of myself.

Friday came and it was finally the end of a long week!
A lecture 11-1 covering 2 weeks worth of content from recapping last years topics to a practical session talking about the assessments we have this year.

The lecturer notified us that we were in earlier than planned which meant I got to go home earlier. WIN WIN!
