Week 3.

Third week at uni

I hate Monday’s. Lectures are boring. Doesn’t interest me at all. The lecture was about Shoulder Rehab. The shoulder is a very complex joint. So many of the bones and muscles can get injured.
Clavicle fractures, acromioclavicular joint separations, dislocations, adhesive capsulitis, rotator cuff injuries and slap lesions (superior labrum anterior to posterior). We looked at rehabbing the shoulder.
In the practical we did rehab programmes from early to late stage with ATFL sprain.
Women’s basketball training started which meant I became their first aider. I get 2 hours for each training session I attend which goes towards the 80 hours of experience I need to get by the end of the year.

Tuesday wasn’t an official lecture. We had nothing to learn about but we looked through the assignment in a bit more detail.

Wednesday was a long day. I started my rehab clinic bright and early.
With the session being the first week, there were no patients and as the unit was a new built no one had been in there before.
We spent the 4 hours that we were scheduled working through a general lower back pain early stage of rehab programme, having a play with the new equipment including running down the hallway with a parachute on our backs. Later we designed a whole rehab programme through the early, intermediate and late stages for an ATFL sprain.
Next came my next commitment. The women’s basketball team had a match. My best friend at uni became the new captain and had a stonker of a game winning 92-7 with 26point coming from her alone!!
Wednesday alone I got 6 hours towards the 80. Leaving a week total of 8 hours!

Thursday arrived and we were learning about upper limb pathologies. Looking at all the different injuries to the upper limb. There are far too many to list however I need to know them all. From dislocations to injuries to the fingers like mallet finger- a disruption to the extensor tendon in the finger. (Which I have on 2 fingers)
We had a quiz at the end which was fun.
Women active was netball this week and was amazing.

I got home and recieved a phone call from Chris.
He proceeded to say he was outside my room. He had come up to surprise me a day early :) I was literally crying with happiness.

Kinesiology was fun. We had the practical first which meant we started at 9 and finished at 1!
Whilst Chris was in bed, I was being put through tests to look at knee injuries. It turns out I have a larger Q angle on my right leg (25 degrees compared to 15). The Q angle is the angle between the ASIS and the tibial tuberosity when a line is drawn from each to the centre of the patella.
The picture attach shows my knees when landing after a jump.
VERY KNOCK KNEES.

In the lecture we looked at the mechanisms of knee injuries. Looking at different types of forces.
Compressive forces are when there is a pushing force applied to a joint.
Tension force is a pulling force.
Sheer force is an opposite force to the tissue.

This weekend Is the first time I’ll be staying up at uni since the very first week of year 1!
With Chris I feel I will be fine.

We are having a weekend of catching up on sleep, exploring and eating junk food.
