week 9
Week 9
It’s been a long week, again.
All I should do is mention Monday and you should know by now
that I hate them. There is no point at all in the sessions, I hate the lecturer
and I just can’t be bothered.
Tuesday there was no lecture, so I spent the day at my
friends being productive and doing work and knitting.
I started my second rotation of clinic on Wednesday, I went
through a whole subjective and objective assessment, along with a knee joint
assessment without any guidance which I am proud of.
Thursday was a long day learning dermatomes and myotomes as
well as reflexes.
A dermatome is an Altered sensory input of the peripheral
nerves.
A myotome is an Altered motor impulses of the peripheral
nerves.
Reflex changes of the deep tendon reflexes
Myotomes are tested with resisted movements.
You can test C1 by doing cervical flexion, C2 by cervical
extension, C3 by Cervical side flexion, C4 shoulder elevation, C5 shoulder
abduction/ lateral rotation, C6 elbow flexion/ wrist extension, C7 elbow
extension/ wrist flexion, C8 thumb extension, T1 finger abduction and
adduction.
L2 hip flexion, L3 knee extension, L4 dorsiflexion, L5 big
toe extension, S1 eversion, S2 Knee Flexion.
• Light touch
• Sharp/blunt
• Warm/cold
• Positive signs
• Sensory loss
• Altered skin sensation
• Inability to differentiate between
stimulus
Reflexes:
Bracioradialis (C6)
Biceps (C5)
Triceps (C7)
Knee jerk (L3)
Ankle Jerk (L5, S1, S2)
On Friday I was in the early session at 9 o clock which
meant I finished at 1pm. In the practical we had to perform the Sath 90
protocol for football. Participants had to run based on specific demands on a
tape wearing GPS monitoring gear on their C7 spine and on the gastric. This was
to measure load. After 15 minutes we measured their blood lactate, Nordic break
angle, y balance test and RPE. It was a great practical and the results were
good.
